The Size of the Socially Responsible Investing Market E-mail

Global SRI Investment Funds accounted for around US$4 trillion in 2005 with Syariah compatible funds adding a further US$300-500 billion and perhaps as much as US$1 trillion.

More than US$2.3 trillion was invested in around 246 funds in the US (incl. Canada) and around €1.2 trillion in 451 funds in Europe

In Asia-Pacific almost US$24.0 billion was invested in around 163 SRI Mutual Funds (Unit Trusts), in addition there are 17 other SRI Funds worth around US$8.3 billion, a total of 180 funds worth around US$32.3 billion in 2006.

There are also around 90 Syariah compliant funds in Asia, mostly in Malaysia which is one of the world’s largest Islamic Finance centres.

Even in developing markets SRI has a significant foothold. In South Africa for example, around US$1.6 billion was invested in about 21 SRI funds in 2006.
